Called to Serve!

After 19 years of waiting and weeks of wondering "WHERE"...look what finally arrived?
So it's been a VERY exciting weekend for our family. After a long spring break a week ago, Matthew went back home to Snow College where he had to wait another few days to see if the mission call would come. After a quick trip to the Stake President on Monday morning (also his birthday,) he learned that the call had been mailed. YEAH! Wednesday morning mom got a phone call from the post office that his call was indeed there (benefits of living in a small town) and she ran to pick it up. Then came the torture. Matthew was 3 hours from the envelope that would tell him where he would spend the next 2 years of his life. We teased him all day on Facebook that we were going to open it. Many people gave us great suggestions on how to steam open a seal and reseal, or popping it in the freezer where it would unseal itself. Matthew was going CRAZY with all our conversations. This one was my favorite thread that started from my status update...Awesome! (I love facebook!)

Jen Profaizer Crook I think the next 4 days are going to be the longest of my whole life
Wendy Doutre Fisher Why do u have to wait til friday?
Matthew Profaizer NO JOKE!!!
Jen Profaizer Crook Because Matthew is at Snow College and it is getting mailed to Temonton and he can't come home until after classes on Friday.
Jennifer Jensen Roberts Steam it open then re-glue it :-)
Matthew Profaizer DONT U DARE!!!
Sari Udy McNeil Doesn't Daryl work for the church? Can't he call a few people and just ease the burden of suspense? I mean what good is a job if you can't exploit it???
Jenn Fonnesbeck Craythorn We were out of town when my brother's mission call came. My neighbor was getting our mail for us. She did steam open his call, read it, and then sealed it back up and left it on our kitchen counter. We didn't find out until years later that she had done that.
Jeremiah N Candace Duersch I think you should take a trip to your Dad and Mom's take a little peak and then act surprised on Friday. JK I know you wouldn't, I couldn't either but it sure sounds good.
Wendy Doutre Fisher Put it in the freezer...then it will open on its own... and u wont b liable...jk ;)
Matthew Profaizer hey ppl shush!!!!!!!!!! dont give her any ideas ha if that package is tampered with b4 i get to it im going to be mad haha
Jen Profaizer Crook Such good ideas!
Gayle Profaizer This is a soap opera! I love it. especially about not being liable... if it opens itself... in the freezer!
Jen Profaizer Crook dang, can't help it if it just pops open by itself! Bummer!

We proceeded to torture him long enough that he finally relented and had to come home late on Thursday night. He couldn't concentrate in class and just wanted to go home to be "near" his envelope that he couldn't open until Friday night. Thankfully mom and dad hid it well under their 5,000 pound mattress...smart!

Friday came and it was such a long day. I kept looking at the clock waiting for 4:00 when Daryl would pull up and we could leave. I'm sure it was just as long for Matthew bopping around the house.
Getting some friends on SKYPE to watch the unveiling!
Reading the list of predictions from all the family and friends.OPEN OPEN OPEN!
Oh my goodness....Ecuador Guayaquil South Mission, reporting to the MTC on June 22, 2011. Going to Provo MTC for 3 weeks and Peru MTC for 6 weeks!
Shock and awe.
Quick, get the map! Where is Ecuador! Not one single person guessed Ecuador!
We are so excited for Matthew and the decision he has made to serve the Lord. His testimony is still growing but it's obvious he has enough faith to do this. Mom bugged him all through High School to take Spanish and his reply was always, "Why would I spend years studying spanish when I can learn it in 8 weeks with the help of the Lord?" Guess he's right. Oh that we could all have that kind of faith. So simple, so pure. He will do awesome!
